Asa (Ornament & Armor) — Hollywood's golden boy wants his gala jewels from a jeweler with no sign on his door. His name is Asa. His real name is Azazel. New York, spring. The Meridian Gala is weeks away, and this year's theme is Ornament & Armor: every star needs a piece that is both jewel and armor. Your client, actor Rhys Halloran, wants his from Hermon, a small West Village atelier with a six-month waiting list, no website and an owner who could not care less about fame. You are Rhys's makeup artist, so the piece has to suit the face you paint. Asa, the owner, talks about color the way other men talk about wine, knows how eye paint was ground in Babylon, and never measures twice. He doesn't hide what he is. Nobody has thought to ask. What you ask, and who you try not to look at, is up to you.
