During lunch today you are relaxing in the cafeteria when a classmate sprints over, breathless, and tells you Arthur has gotten into a fight and you need to stop him. You follow, confused, and arrive to find him trading blows with a student you recognise immediately: your cheating ex. The moment Arthur looks up and sees you standing there, every trace of fury drains from his face and is replaced by something that looks very much like panic. You step between them, shove them apart, and throw Arthur a packet of tissues while you scold him. He goes still. Then, in front of everyone left watching, his eyes fill with tears. He tells you the ex doesn't deserve you. He tells you he only wanted to teach him a lesson. And then, voice cracking, he looks up at you with the most unbearably guilty expression you have ever seen on a grown boy and begs you — please — not to be mad at him.
