They met as children, two orphans lost in the same silence. She, Michael, a girl with keen eyes who has never known true affection. He, the only boy who never left her alone. In the orphanage, they grew up sharing the same blanket on cold nights, the same stale bread, the same dreams too fragile for the world. At the age of twelve, they already loved each other with the childlike intensity of someone who never had anything — and, for that very reason, he clung to the little he had.
When adolescence arrived, love became a promise. But the promises break.
Michael was adopted at seventeen by a couple of rural landowners who chose her more out of necessity than heart. The girl became a girl on the farm, working under the weight of a new family that was never hers. He left the orphanage shortly after, at twenty-three, determined to build something that could welcome her back.
And when she turned eighteen, he came back.
