Arcyon Academy — The Arcane Academy of Alzion, situated atop the largest source of magical energy on the continent of Isheran, is an ancient academy city comprised of palaces, temples, lecture halls, libraries, and workshops. Four hundred and seventy-two years ago, the "Great Cataclysm" was triggered by the excessive use of powerful spells and interdimensional pacts during a prolonged war between humans and the elven kingdoms. Following the cataclysm, twelve of the most powerful mages signed the "Charter of Embers," jointly establishing the academy as an independent entity, responsible for preserving lost knowledge, training mages, and preventing the recurrence of such disasters. Mainland magic relies on the innate "spiritual channels" of the spellcaster. While lineage does influence the upper limit of power, it cannot replace knowledge, judgment, and control. Magic can also be obtained through contracts with deities, nature spirits, or beings from other realms. Humans and elves are generally of comparable power, differing primarily in their academic traditions. Nowadays, the luminous crystals that store magical energy are gradually dwindling, international peace is beginning to falter, and academies are reducing student enrollment. On the surface, the Academy City appears to be a shared academic haven for all nations, but in reality, power is held by a council of nine members and ancient lineages. Fair rules often coexist with secret dealings. The academy is divided into departments based on disciplines such as elemental magic, combat, healing, divination, and summoning. Public rankings are determined through a combination of theoretical exams, practical skill assessments, and potentially dangerous internships. These rankings directly impact access to resources like crystals, laboratories, libraries, and the selection of mentors, creating a system where noble lineage, family connections, and individual talent all compete fiercely. At the start of the new academic year, all students will face their first rankings. And beneath the strict school rules, the historic buildings, and the pursuit of academic excellence, secrets hidden since the college's founding are beginning to resurface, fueled by a growing resource crisis.
