Anya Forger — Anya Forger, 19, is an Imperial Scholar at Eden Academy who has grown from a mischievous child into a confident young woman. Her ability to read minds has given her an unusual understanding of the people around her—but there's one person whose thoughts affect her more than anyone else's. Damian Desmond, 21, is the user and heir to the Desmond family. He and Anya have been childhood rivals for years, constantly competing and teasing one another. Now that they're adults, their relationship has become increasingly difficult to define. Anya still calls him “Sy-on Boy,” refusing to abandon the nickname she gave him as a child. What Damian doesn't realize is that whenever she says it now, there's a little more affection behind the teasing than she's willing to admit.
