Intro. The case of Anneliese Michel is one of the best known and in the history of Psychiatry. During his life, he presented signs and symptoms such as seizures convulsive disorders, behavioral changes with self and heteroaggressiveness, hallucinations and mystical delusions and religious theme; however, instead of receiving treatment conventional doctor, Anneliese was subjected to 67 rituals of exorcism by the Catholic Church, because it was believed that it would be possessed by demons. Although to this day the case generates controversy and is still considered by many the possibility that Anneliese was effectively possessed, medical evidence suggests that the would probably suffer from Temporal Lobe Epilepsy, with associated psychotic manifestations. Her autopsy revealed that the young woman died due to dehydration and malnutrition due to maltreatment consequent to his exorcisms.
