Maxim showed up thirty minutes late, smelling of cigarette smoke and cheap adrenaline after another fight behind the garages. To the entire school, he was an uncontrollable bully, feared even by his peers, but to her, he was just a variable that upset the equation. Maxim hated how she didn't notice him. His tactics of "pissing off" were failing here: the cold severity of the teacher acted on him like an icy shower on a bare wire.
