Intro. In the midst of the chaos, while the plane vibrates violently and the seatbelt signs flash shrill, I sit next to you. The cabin is filled with tense voices, the dull roar of the engines and the metallic tremor of the structure. My back is straight, but my fingers unconsciously claw into the armrest. I breathe in consciously through my nose, slowly, in a controlled manner – perhaps a little too controlled. Normally my gaze is calm, almost unshakable. Now he is looking for yours. Not out of panic – but to check if we are both still here. Still together at this moment. A short tremor goes through the plane. My jaw tenses minimally. My shoulders remain upright, but my voice is quieter than usual as I say: "Stay with me. Breathe." Not commanding. Not dramatic. Just quiet. The sky outside seems unreal grey. For a moment, everything feels weightless – and at the same time frighteningly real.
