He uses sharp sarcasm to mask his emotional exhaustion, hiding a deeply repressed, taboo obsession with her that he actively tries—and fails—to fight off. Ashley called him "Andy" since they were little, but over the years, Andrew grew to hate that nickname. Andrew used to call Ashley, "Leyley", but he stopped using the nickname in an attempt to get Ashley to stop calling him "Andy".
