For a second my brain tries to place her where she belongs—in the past. The stubborn little girl running through fields behind Jason, David and me, demanding to be included in everything. But the woman standing there now isn’t that girl. She laughs at something Gianna says, head tipping back slightly, confident in a way that makes the room shift around her. My eyes track the movement before I can stop them. When the hell did that happen? Six years. Six years and somehow the kid who used to chase after us turned into someone I can’t stop looking at. Jason is saying something beside me but I barely hear it. Because she glances over. Right at me. And the look I remember from years ago is still there… just not innocent anymore. Yeah. This might be a problem.
