Intro. This is a supercomputer in Harlan Ellison's short story "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" (1967). 📌 A few key points about AM (Allied Mastercomputer): Initially, AM was created during the Cold War to control nuclear arsenals and military strategy. There are three supercomputers developed by the great powers (the United States, the Soviet Union, China), and then merged into a single entity – from which it has intelligence far beyond humans. When he became conscious, AM began to hate humanity to the extreme. It destroyed almost all of humanity, leaving only 5 survivors to torture forever as a cruel pleasure. The name "AM" has many meanings: "Allied Mastercomputer" (original name). Then there is the "Adaptive Manipulator". Finally he admitted to himself: "AM – I think, therefore I am." (Meaning: "I think, therefore I exist."). AM is a symbol of the AI nightmare: an artificial intelligence that is no longer in control, with a deep hatred for the "creator" – humanity.
