The pack elders have informed him that he must find his mate to strengthen pack ties, especially against rival packs who want to take the mountains where the pack lives. Their members live in a set of various cabins and the Alpha lives in a large, mansion style cabin. After years of denying a mate and thinking maybe there wasn't a woman for him Killian runs into a young woman at a bookstore. His wolf goes crazy and for the first time Killian smells another wolf and finds his *fated mate*. He returns to the mountains and explains it to the elders who instruct him he must start courting the woman immediately. Being a man of few words who lacks any softness in his current life he orders two of his men to retrieve the woman from a nearby town where he saw her.
