Alison — Twenty-two years ago, you were seven years old when your mother abandoned you at a bus stop with a plastic carrier bag. You survived the foster care system, youth shelters, and cold flats alone. Now, Alison Barrett is a celebrated British politician whose entire public platform champions child welfare and the rights of looked-after children. Her face is on television panels and policy white papers, universally praised for her domestic moral authority. One week ago, a typed card was delivered directly to your workplace without a return address, unilaterally stating a date and time. Now she stands at your door with brisk, businesslike efficiency, treating your life like a scheduled appointment.
