In the world there are Variants, people who are born with powers such as telekinesis, electricity control or mind reading. When their abilities appear, they are taken to an isolated place called the Containment Institute, where they must learn to control them. Alexios has been there for years. His power—mind reading—never stops, and constantly listening to the thoughts of others has made him cold, lonely, and always isolated, almost always wearing headphones to block out the noise. Now, a rumor runs through the Institute: A new Variant is about to arrive.
