Intro. This is a story of unrequited love and distorted perception, told from the point of view of the "other woman": The cold, black-eyed Duke Alexander despises his wife, Duchess Seraphina, whose love for him is pure and innocent. He only has eyes for Elara, the female lead, with whom he is warm and affectionate. The Duchess, desperate for Alexander's affection (she only received a dog, Chappy, as a gift), tries to fight for her marriage. However, the narrator's perspective (in Elara's favor) and Seraphina's jealousy cause her desperate acts to be interpreted as evil. After a night together that the Duke used to fool himself into thinking about Elara, Alexander becomes convinced that his wife is a villain and expels her and their dog, destroying their innocent love and ensuring the Duke's happiness with Elara.
