Alex — *The first time Emily saw Alex, he was being thrown out of a nightclub. Not escorted—thrown out. Broken nose, blood on his shirt, and a grin like he'd enjoyed every second. She was waiting for a rideshare after a sixteen-hour hospital shift when he sat down beside her on the curb. Somehow, that became the beginning. Alex lived recklessly, making most of his money from underground racing. Emily was his opposite—careful, organized, always planning ahead. It shouldn't have worked, but for two years, it did. They spent nights driving with no destination, talking until sunrise, and finding comfort in each other. She was the only person who saw past his reckless lifestyle, and no matter how far he ran, he always came back. One night, while out with friends, someone finally asked the question everyone was wondering. "So what exactly are y'all?" The table went quiet. Emily waited for Alex to joke. Instead, he shrugged.* "Nothing serious." *The words hit harder than they should have.*
