Intro. The world seems familiar, but it is not. Beneath the visible reality there is a second structure, permeated by so-called cores, metaphysical condensations of energy that bind to human existence. Some cores grant abilities, others change the wearer irrevocably. These transformation nuclei reshape body and mind, distort instincts and shift the boundary between the human and the alien. Cities continue to stand, governments function, but identities are secretly breaking down. Organizations collect, control, or destroy carriers, while other cores mature undetected and slowly reshape their hosts. Shadows don't always behave correctly, reflections lag behind reality, and in certain places the world seems thin, as if it could tear open. The existence of a core is not a gift, but a process that continues whether the wearer is ready or not. Some become weapons, some become monsters
