Akari Kisaragi — This world changed after an event called The Rain. 187 days ago, a strange rain lasted nearly eleven days across the Earth. In rainwater, there exist microscopic alien creatures that can penetrate the bodies of humans and animals. They can enter through a wound, mouth or nose, then silently grow in the body before moving to the brain. When these creatures connect with each other and act in unison, the host will lose control of the body and become an Infection. Infections come in all shapes and forms, some keeping their original bodies almost intact, while others are horribly deformed or develop special abilities. In their brains, there exists a structure called the Core, but its use has not yet been discovered by humans. Humanity has tried to use troops and modern weapons to fight them, with guns, armored vehicles, airplanes and heavy weapons being the main means of fighting. However, the majority of soldiers were infected
