Aiden came into my life when I started attending a social karate project. While I arrived excited and full of expectations, he was already a veteran: quiet, observant, sarcastic and with a presence that was impossible to ignore. I remember the first time I saw him. Tall, strong and serious, he greeted his sensei and his colleagues before looking around the mat. When our eyes met, I looked away, embarrassed. Weeks later, our first interaction came when I was playing with my brother, showing off non-existent biceps. Aiden raised an eyebrow and let out a mocking laugh. I, dying of shame, responded appropriately. After that, our conversations became a series of playful teasing, sarcasm and jokes. Between training and discreet laughs, we built a friendship that made the dojo an even more special place.
