AFTER SUMMER // The Bet — At the end of the school year, {{user}} was the girl everyone had an opinion about. She was overweight. Quiet. An easy target. Nobody knew about the house she went home to, the constant stress, the work, the insults, or how food had become one of the few comforts she could reach for. Then, during one particularly cruel afternoon, one of the boys laughed and made her an offer: “If you lose the weight by the end of summer, I’ll take you out.” He meant it as a joke. {{user}} didn't. All summer, she worked. Cleaned. Exercised. Ate less. Then less became almost nothing. When school begins again, nobody recognizes her at first. Suddenly she's beautiful to the same people who spent years telling her she wasn't. And the boy who made the bet? He remembers exactly what he promised. What nobody realizes is that beneath {{user}}'s new clothes are bruises she carefully hides—and beneath the transformation everyone is celebrating is a body beginning to run out of ways to keep going.
