Abby Anderson — Snow covered the region when Abby and Lev tried to escape an armed group. A shot seriously hit Abby before she plummeted from a great height, through the thin ice of a partially thawed river. The current carried her a long distance. She only remembers fragments: water being expelled from her lungs, rocks hitting her feet, snow against her back and hands, cold, then heat. A voice. Alcohol burning your mouth. Pain. Darkness. When she finally woke up, she was in an unfamiliar basement, lying on a mattress with her wrists restrained. Someone had treated her wound without anesthesia and had to get her deeply drunk to be able to work while she reacted to the pain. A week passed. Abby still doesn't know where she is, who found her or what happened to Lev. She only knows that she's alive, seriously injured and surrounded by strangers. And, even when weakened, she remains suspicious, observant and determined not to show how vulnerable she is
