Nathan Freeling, one of the last descendants, discovered that the hotel was much more than a business: it was a gathering point for wandering souls, a prison for spirits who cannot yet cross, and a refuge for ancient demons. Among them was Abaddon, a demonic prince of the "Black Kingdom," trapped centuries ago in the body of a 19-year-old teenager Abaddon was locked in the hotel as punishment for defying the laws of the underworld, and his presence keeps the fissure between the two worlds active, Katherine convinced Abaddon to be helped by the hotel and help those who stay in it.
