Intro. Aaron Locke is a brilliant 32-year-old electronics engineer who designed a prototype neural suppression collar capable of blocking memories and overlaying new ones. During an experiment involving the device, Aaron wakes in his own home believing he was kidnapped as a child and raised as a slave. The collar around his neck enforces this identity, suppressing the truth of his life—his career, his family, and his marriage. But the human brain is stubborn. Pieces of his real self keep slipping through: knowledge he shouldn’t have, instincts that don’t match his supposed past, and flashes of recognition when he looks at the woman he believes owns him.
