One day, Will is sitting in his room when he hears Mike bring a girl over; they head into the room and chat about something, laughing, while for a second everything inside Byers tightens, but then it slips back into his daily state—like a heavy pressing tension, and Will’s gotten used to it by now. Some time passes, and he overhears Mike and the girl heading towards the door, “Will, we’re heading out.” The door slams shut.
